Permanent Secretariat
Art. 9 of the framework Convention
Consistently with the article 9 of the Framework Convention, the 6th Session of the Conference decided to set up a Permanent Secretariat.
The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention was established by a decision taken at the 7th Alpine Conference of Meran in November 2002. Since 2003, the Permanent Secretariat has been located in Innsbruck, Austria, with a branch office in Bozen, Italy.
The tasks of the Permanent Secretariat are as follows:
- administrative and technical support to the bodies of the Alpine Convention
- public relations
- co-ordination of the Alpine research projects
- support with respect to the implementation of the Alpine Convention
- observation and information system for the Alps (SOIA)
